Why is your character here: Lan Fan has come to deco to ensure the safety of the Yao Clan and Ling’s place as the next emperor of Xing.
Character history: Lan Fan was born to a family that served the Imperial class of the Yao Clan for years. She was orphaned at a young age and raised by her grandfather to be a retainer like himself. She was in close contact with the Yao Prince, Ling, during her childhood and put in place as one of his personal guards alongside her Grandfather, Fuu. When the emperor of Xing fell ill and the race to gain his favor by 50 Xingese clans began Ling, Lan Fan and Fuu traveled across the Great Desert to the neighboring country of Amestris in search of the secret to immortality, which would be the thing that would impress the dying emperor the most and secure Ling’s place as his heir. While there they became completely immersed in the affairs of the Elric brothers and the creatures called homunculi. During a plan to capture one of the seemingly immortal homunculi Lan Fan lost her arm and became separated from Ling. During the separation Ling’s body was possessed by a homunculus called Greed and for the time, lost. Unable to continue her duty or find the prince in her current state, she and Fuu returned to Xing so that she could be fitted with automail to replace her lost arm. Six months later, they returned, reunited with the Elric brothers as well as Ling and took part in the climactic battle with the homunculi and their “Father”. During the battle Fuu was killed and Greed sacrificed himself to save Ling and the others. Afterward Ling, Lan Fan and Mei Chang (a princess of a rival clan) set out to return to Xing with a philosopher’s stone procured during the final battle with hopes of Ling taking the throne in the oncoming conflict.
Character personality: The most fundamental part of Lan Fan’s personality is her fierce loyalty and sense of duty. Her entire life she has had the importance of Xingese ideals drilled into her head as well as the proper way for a guard to act. Added to that, she was raised more as a boy than as a girl, so that sense of discipline and control was heightened because of the need to be flawless in her role in order to be taken seriously and respected. She takes a great deal of pride in her role as well, recognizing the importance of being an imperial retainer and knowing she is good at it. Outside of her working role Lan Fan is standoffish with other people for a number of reasons, first being that there is a distinct lack of trust in her role. With the number of threats toward the Imperial Yao and her role being to protect them from them, it is nearly impossible to let her guard down enough to be friendly. There is no real point to it and so avoidance is easier. Other than that, because of the way she was raised she has difficulty interacting with others—she is neither a man nor a woman and so cannot fully relate to either, creating a social barrier there. Finally, in regards to Ling, she has affection and deeper emotions that are unbecoming of a retainer, and they strengthen her loyalty more than any sense of duty could. However, those feelings contrast greatly with societal ideals, and it only drives that air of discipline harder so that she can hide behind it. When that stoic mask is shaken loose, however, she can easily become flustered and has a problem with uncontrollable blushing. Finally, Lan Fan can be a hot head, and when she gets shaken up if she isn’t reduced to a stammering blushing mess then she will likely be trying to physically retaliate, whether from thrown kunai or a physical brawl.

Skill loss or memory loss?
Memory loss!
Amnesiac Personality: Without her memories Lan Fan will be considerably different, as social standards have shaped so much about her and caused portions of her natural personality to be subdued. The biggest change will be in her demeanor. Without the knowledge of constant threats of assassinations and her being the front line defense against said assassinations she will have no reason to be as distrusting and standoffish as she is in canon. Her sense of loyalty will remain as her loyalty is tied more to emotion than an actual sense of duty, so the ties she makes to people will be strong. Her pride in her abilities and the drive to do things well will also remain and will result in a very competitive nature. Where that drive was fueled by the need to overcome the discrimination of being a woman in a man’s role in canon, in Decollage it will simply be natural competitiveness. She will be much more open because of this as well and display a more sportsman-like and almost fun-loving air about her. Finally, she will have no social constructs telling her to avoid acting in any specific way, meaning she will feel free to speak her mind, laugh, smile, and show emotions and will not be concerned as to whether she is acting too feminine, too masculine or in a general ‘unbecoming’ manner. She’ll be free to just be herself without worry.

Thread 1: from country_within_the_palace. Ling and Ed were at the public bath, pissed someone off and were chased away stark naked back to Ling and Lan Fan’s apartment where an unsuspecting Lan Fan was waiting for Ling. (Pasted into my journal because the com is locked. Comments by forherprince are Lan Fan.)
